Two BUNYC members testifying before the board of Empire State Development in favor of a Staten Island redevelopment project also told the board members to bring a long stalled project on the Brooklyn waterfront up for a vote.
Ironworker Carole Raftrey and Carpenter Frank Ippoliti spoke out in favor of the Empire Outlets redevelopment project in Staten Island. But both also pressed the board members to bring the Pier 6 project up for a vote.
“I also want to ask you to do something else that will provide jobs and real community benefits for New Yorkers: schedule a vote on the Brooklyn waterfront development proposed for Pier 6. The time is not to schedule Pier 6 for a vote,” Raftrey said.
Ippoliti, after speaking in favor of the Staten Island project, added that the board members should “support another project that will create good jobs in our city. I want to urge you to schedule a vote on the proposed Brooklyn waterfront development at Pier 6.”
ESDC held a hearing on Pier 6 months ago but has not brought it up for a vote.
