There is tremendous development in Long Island City, some of it very close to the subway trains. Imagine what would happen if a construction accident took place that impacted one of the train lines. How would you get to work?
We, the undersigned, urge the MTA, our elected officials and the community board to keep monitoring the new developments and take the strongest action possible to insure public safety. The MTA has the power to approve permits for construction sites close to subway trains. We urge the MTA to ensure that any contractors on these sites demonstrate that they are utilizing a skilled, well-trained, workforce that has undergone documented safety training before approving permits. By signing this petition, we, the public of Long Island City are stating we want to be safe during our daily commute and in our community.
